puppy or no puppy

We lost our dog about a year ago. He was an 11 year old Weimeraner named Suede. He was the ultimate dog and my best friend/hunting companion for all his life. I had to lay him down due to seizures. The kids are now hitting me up for another dog and I just don't want to do it. Some of it is we still have a one year old in diapers and alot of it is that I just don't want to get a dog that won't measure up to the Suede and I miss him. So at what point do we get another puppy? I told the kids when there is no more diapers being worn in the house which is about a year away I guess. Do we get the same dog or a different breed? Male or female?

Saturday morning

Hey all, small intro to me. I am a stay at home dad with four kids at home still; two boys and two girls. My wife is a nurse at the hospital and I am a full time student. We are a huge outdoors family. We play in the winter over at Glamis or Buttercup and summers are usually spent camping between Castle Creek or Fossil Springs.

As for today, we are heading down to Cave Creek to drop the kids off and the wife and I will be meeting some friends for Sushi, Sake and Coyotes Hockey.
